“Smell the Flowers” Original Short Film
I wrote the script for this film in one of my classes during my junior year of college, and then produced, directed, and edited the film senior year during my “Directing the Narrative Film” class. It was a great experience to be involved in every step of a project from ideation to completion, and I got some great experience directing a cast and crew. In addition to writing the script, I also storyboarded the project, came up with a comprehensive shot list, managed locations forms, organized wardrobe and set dressing, and scheduled each film shoot. I also operated a camera for the majority of the films using a Sony FX30, a DJI Ronin S Gimbal, and wireless lavelier mics. During post-production I completed all of the editing, including color correction, dialogue mixing (and necessary noise reduction), and music (sourced from Pixabay).
As a director, I made sure every choice was intentionally contributing (as much as it could) to the telling of the story I had written and the conveying of its theme. The theme I made for this project was “learning to make the most of the time you have with people”.
Beulah Beach High School Camp 2024
This was a recap video I made while working at Beulah Beach in the summer of 2024 for their High School Camp. I shot almost everything with the Canon R5, either handheld or using a DJI Ronin SC gimbal (I did not shoot the interviews). After shooting throughout most of the week, I edited everything in time for the camp’s closing ceremony. For the edit, I was responsible for everything after music had been selected; this included assembling everything, cleaning up audio, mixing, and color grading.
Beulah Beach BMC Week
This is the recap video I shot and edited for a week-long Bible and Missionary Conference that Beulah Beach put on during my time working there in the summer of 2024. I shot almost everything, with the exception of the sermon clips and the first evening’s events, and I used the Canon R5 along with a DJI Ronin SC gimbal. This was a fun project, because it was a unique style compared to the camp videos I made that summer, and it was a different animal to tackle in that regard. I had the freedom to edit everything however I saw fit, and I decided to use Adobe After Effects to update the opening/closing graphic from a previous year to match this year’s color scheme.
Pilot G2 Concept Commercial
I wrote, shot, and edited this 30 second commercial for an assignment in my Digital Film Production class. It was a great exercise in every aspect of making a film; I got more experience scriptwriting, storyboarding, making and following a shot-list, shooting on a tight schedule, and especially editing to a strict time constraint (since we had to turn in a 30 second cut).
ABWE Spain Support Video
I made this video with my friend Matthew during a trip with Storytellers Abroad to Madrid, Spain. I conducted the interview, working with a translator, while Matthew filmed the interview. We split work on gathering B-Roll and editing, and we worked hard to cut 15 minutes worth of material from our interviewee down to a 4.5 minute video, all while maintaining the integrity of the story. Later, I edited the English dub to fit the video, which you can find on my YouTube channel here. I did a lot of audio work on this project, including noise reduction since we filmed the interview in a park.
